What is Horizons Dinner Parties?

Horizons Dinner Parties is a series of biweekly dinners hosted by Henrik Boecken. The central premise is simple: each week that you choose to attend, bring a +1. That’s it!

Most dinners will have an attached theme, but the core concept generally remains unaffected.

What is Horizons’ purpose?

In simplest terms, the goal is to bring people together.

Put less simply, New York City has a fundamental coordination problem. This is the most diverse place on planet Earth, yet it can be frustratingly difficult to branch out of your social bubble. Diversity of ideas, beliefs, and people is a fundamental force of good in society; the goal of Horizons is to help ever so slightly move the needle towards good.

When and where are the dinners?

With occasional announced exceptions, the dinners will be at 6:00 PM, every other Saturday, at a variety of locations.

What if my +1 flakes?

While of course not ideal, this will happen and it is fine. If you do sign up and your +1 bails, please attend anyway. Should you yourself not be able to make it, let Henrik know in advance.

Who’s Henrik?

He’s the charming host of the event, but otherwise he’s quite irrelevant.

Are there rules I have to follow?

Regarding the central rule, remember that you can bring anyone. Sometimes people bring their best friend of decades, sometimes they bring someone they met yesterday.

Otherwise, we ask that you respect the host(s) and all other guests. Some themed dinner may have specific requirements attached; please take them seriously.

What is the dress code?

There is no strict dress code, but we like looking nice!

How can I help out?

You will never be required to help in any capacity. That being said, there are many ways to contribute. Food and drink are always appreciated. You can help host or chef for any given event. If you have an idea that sounds fun, reach out and we can try to make it happen!

Of course, the most important way to help is to bring your wonderful selves.

Why Horizons?

The horizon is an immaterial line that determines the perceived size of the world you are inhabiting. I think it is occasionally worth pushing past that line to see what else there is to be found.
